WEEK OPENS BRISKLY.

Business on tho Auckland Stock Exchange opened briskly yesterday. •Offers for gilt-edged securities and commercial debentures showed little change. In banks the ordinary issue of Commercials of Australia was done at 29s 6d, ex div., compared with thu last salp, cum div., at 30s. Tho preference issue changed hands, ox div., at £7 6s 6d, compared with the last sale, cum div., at £7 9s 3d. Unions of Australia were wanted at tho current selling price, £ls Is, sellers £ls Is 6d. In insurance New Zealands were again dono at 47s 6d. In tho loan and agency section New Zealand Guarantees spld dearer at 9s 4£d. In gas Aucklands were unchanged by two more sales at 24s Id. In shipping Northerns were done at tho current price, 14s 3d, and in timber Nationals wero unchanged by another sale at 7s 6d.

In tho miscellaneous section Farmers' Tradings maintained their advance with another sale at 9s, and 9s 3d was offered for more, sellers 9s 6d. 'Taranaki Oils were again dono at 3s lid and more were wanted at 4s, sellers 4s sd. Wilsons Cements were unchanged by a . further sale at 44s 9d, at which price more wero offered, buyers 44s 7d.

Tho Bank of Now Zealand has received tho following advico from its London offico concerning tho fro7.cn meat market as at tho close of business last week: — Wethers, light, s>jd to 63d per lb; heavy, 5d to owes. 4Jd to s£d; lambs, twoS, B|d to 9d; eights, 7 7-8 dto 8 l-8d; fours, 7 7-8 dto 8 l-8d; seconds, 8d to SJd; oxhinds, 5Ad to S^d; fores, 3J,d to 33d; cow hinds, 43d to 5d fores, 3id to Thero is a bettor inquiry for wether mutton. Tho reduction in tho prico of ewes has improved, tho demand. Thero is a littlo better demand for lambs and it is thought that prices will remain steady. A fair demand exists for beef.
