MOUNT MAUNG AN UI ROADS. STOCK RESERVE PROPOSAL. [by telegraph.—own coiusEsroNDENT.] TAURANG A, Sunday. At n meeting of the Tauranga County Council a letter was received from tho Harbour Board, asking for an improvement of (lie road leading from (lie Ocean Beach Iload to Pilot Bay jetty, at Mount Maunganui. The letter slated that the board was considering the extension of the jetty so as to serve for heavier classes of cargo. Tho Mount Maunganui Ratepayers' Association wroto urging that a road be formed lo give access to the extensive shell deposits on the ocean side of Mount Maunganui, and pointed out the suitabjlity of this shell for roads improvement. Tho council also considered a petition asking that the harbour front road, known as the Mall, bo formed, clayed and shelled from the railway station gates to Reach Road. The petitioners offered donations totalling £52 toward the work.

Letters were read from the commissioner of Crown lands and the field inspector regarding a proposal to include a stock reserve in an adjoining farming area near the Wairoa cutting, at To Puna. It was stated that this rescrvo would not be required for holding purposes and the council was asked it' it had any objection to closing tho road bounding the reserve. Mr. J. M. Darragh said the, reserve was convenient to To Puna railway stntion and would be handy for holding cattle which travelled by train.

It was decided to defer the matter in order lo make investigations. Tho council decided to allow a rebate of b per cent, on tho current year's rates paid within 30 daVs of the due date, but that this would not apply to ratepayers whose rates were in arrears:
