ROBBERS CAPTURED.
SCENE IN BUTCHER'S SHOP.
OWNER GAGGED AND BOUND
(Received August 6, 1.25 a.m.) SYDNEY. Aug. 5
Two masked robbers, who had secreted themselves in a butcher's shop at Redfcrn owned by Michael Briggs, this evening bound and gagged Briggs, covered him with revolvers and commenced to hunt for cash.
The intruders discovered a bottle of whisky and impudently consumed a largo portion of the contents. A woman neighbour heard the men threatening Briggs and she telephoned to the police, who dashed to the scene in a motor-car. They arrested tlie bandits but not before a shot had been fired by one of them at the woman who had given the alarm. BANDITS AT MELBOURNE. SEVEN WOMEN ATTACKED. MELBOURNE. Aug. 5. A reign of terror is still being carried on by armed bandits in tlio Melbourne district. Highway robberies at the weekend totalled seven. In each case unescorted women were the victims of the bandits. In two instances at Moonce Ponds, four miles north of the city, shots were fired to intimidate women.
The proceeds of the robberies in the majority of cases were small.
