SWIMMING THE CHANNEL.
Since 1875, when Captain Webb swam from Dover to Calais for the first time in 2lhrs. 46min., there have been fifteen successful attempts to swim the Chanrfel, cloven of which have been rnado since 1925.
Mira Gertrude Edcrle, in 1026, was the . t woman to swim tho Channol, her journey from Grinnez to Dover taking J'r B * 34n*in. The fastest time was anbievod by G. .Michel, who, in 1926, i" *ho next best being i2h "' Wmin. i« the "ama yea?.
