THE CITY COUNCIL.
BROADCASTING THE BAND. COMPANY'S MOVE AWAITED. Tho Auckland City Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, presiding. The onus of reopening negotiations for the right to broadcast the Municipal Band recitals was thrown on the Radio Broadcasting Company by tho council, when it adopted a recommendation from the Finance Committco intimating that the council was prepared to meet representatives of the. company and consider any proposals that might bo submitted. The council and tho company have been unable to agree to the terms on which the recitals should be broadcast, and at. the last, meeting of tho council a deputation from tho radio dealers and listeners urged the reopening of negotiations. Tho laying down of permanent bitumen surfaces in Beaumont, Daldy, Halsoy, Jellicoe, Madden, Palrenham and Gaunt Streets in tho Freeman's Bay reclamation, at a cost of £10.790, was authorised on tho recommendation of the Works Committee. The Harbour Board is under agreement to pay £BIOO toward tho cost.
Permission to use the city coat of arms with a crossed oar design was refused to tho Auckland Rowing Club. Tho club had offered to submit the design of a new badgo if the council was disposed to approve of the incorporation of the city insignia.
