GOLF PROFESSIONALS.

TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA.

ONLY TWO REPRESENTATIVES. MOSS AND DOUGLAS NOT GOING. Only two of tho four golf professionals originally chosen to make a visit to Australia as a team representing New Zealand in the Australian open championship will now make tho trip, the other two having intimated to tho Ne>v Zealand Professional Golfers' Association, the body controlling the lour, that they aro unable to accompany tho team. Tho two who will represent the Dominion aro A. J. Shhw, of Napier, and J. Mcintosh, of Palmerston North, the two Aticklnndcrs, E. J. Moss, of Auckland, and E. C. Douglas, of Titirangi, having dropped out.

Tho two members of tho team will leave Wellington to-day by tho Maramsi for Sydney and not from Auckland, as was originally intended. Tho Australian open championship is tr\ bo commenced on August 19 nt Adelaide, nnd when this is completed tho players will bo at liberty to compete in other open or Stale championships for which they aro eligible, and any professional matches that may be arranged. It is very unfortunate that Moss and Douglas could not see their way to make the tour, as both possess splendid records in New Zealand golf. Moss held the open championship in 1924 and 1027, while ho tied onco with Shaw. lie has also been threo times professional champion. Douglas won the Dominion open championship in 1913, 1914, 1919 and 1921, and was several times professional champion.

Both the members of the team have very lino records, having displayed sterling golf on different courses all over the Dominion. Shaw won the open championship at Miramnr in 1926, while last year ho was runner-up to Sloan Morpeth at Dunedin, where he won the. professional championship. lie is ono of tho most capable) professionals in the Dominion, and his inclusion in the team was expected in all quarters 110 plays his shots very rapidly, conveying an impression of carelessness, while he. gels considerable length with his strokes.

Mcintosh whs successful in the professional championship in 1927, and ha* figured very prominently at all the championship meetings for the past four or five years. He is a player who meets with nioro success in match play than in medal play, arid this probably accounts for the fact that he has rarely shown his true form in the Dominion open event. 110 is an exceptionally long hitter, and his length should be even greater on the faster Australian courses.
