THE GREAT SOUTH ROAD.
i Sir, —Why is this road, which is the shortest and easiest grade between Auckland and Wellington, not. linkeel up ? The •road is formed from Auckland to Mangapehi, and Jrem Wellington to Waimihi. leaving a gap of only five miles unformed, There are no heavy grades between Te Kuiti and Tanmarunui. metal is not hard to obtain, and would only be a short cartage at. any point. It has taken about 10 years tc get the last 10 miles formed as far as a comrtiur.jfy that has lived for abflut 20 years without any road communication at all. So, perhaps, the Public Works Department might ge» through this remaining five miles in another ten When Sir William Fraser was Minister of Public Works he said we did not require a road, the railway was good enough for us. What is the railway witliout a road anyway? Kopaki. W, Fordiiam.
