REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURE. AUCKLAND DEFEATS SOUTH. ELEVEN POINTS TO EIGHT. • ————— A large attendance witnescsd South Auckland make a splendid effort at Carlaw Park on Saturday to win the Northern Union Challenge Cup from Auckland, the match resulting in a win for the latter by 11 points to 8. Play was interesting throughout and under heavy-ground conditions some excellent forward play was provided by the visitors. The Waikato men outplayed the local forwards, but the superior combination of the Auckland backs turned the advantage in favour of the holders. The result was a true indication of the play. The omission of Shortland at the last, minute caused much discussion, but it appears that he was not eligible, as he had not played three matches for his club. Mcfntyre replaced Shortland behind the scrum. The teams, were as follows:

Piiki and Jones were associated in a great offensive, which ended in the last-named being thrown into touch. Good play by Mclntyre relieved the situation for Auckland. Hamilton .was prominent. at the head of Auckland's forwards, but Raynor saved well. L. Scott and Brisbane rtced down the line, but sound defence held them up. From a scrum near halfway Abbott save Whoraky a chance, but the five-eighths lacked pace. A kick by ilincham was charged down and the visitors' forwards went close to scoring. Then Tiftleton was tackled by Delgrosso a few feet from Auckland's line. Visitors Hold Advantage. SmUli Auckland had ail the better of the next few minutes and Paki raised some excitement in easily beating Mincham.
