TEST CRICKET MATCH.

SOUTII AFRICA V. ENGLAND.

HOME SIDE IN THE LEAD.

VISITORS' SECOND INNINGS,

SEVEN WICKETS FOR 116 RUNS

Australian Press Association—United Service .LONDON, July 15.

Tho third (est cricket match, South Africa v. England, was continued to-day at Leeds. Thero were 11,500 spectators. When stumps were drawn on Saturday the visitors had made 236 runs in their first innings and England had lost two wickets for 106. Hammond (30) and Duckworth (5) were the not out men. Tho intense heat and tho prolonged dry weather had affected tho wicket, which developed dusty patches, but played truly. England resumed batting quietly. Hammond certainly hit six fours before luncheon, but ho was unusually restrained. Woolley played a masterful innings for 83. 110 was always confident and hit hard. His score included a six and 10 fours.

Hendren failed to survive his initial over. After luncheon England's batsmen adopted more aggressive tactics, but that policy failed and five wickets fell for 58. Deano made quick changes in the bowling. •

Tho fielding of the South Africans was high class. Their substitute wicketkeeper, Vandermcrwo, performed excellently and took an abnormal number of leg side balls. He allowed only two byes to pass him. Larwood had strained one of his ankles and did not bowl in tho South Africans' second innings to-day. The visitors batted cautiously, especially after a bad start. Fifty runs had been scored after 80 minutes play. Mitchell and Morkel were especially sedate.

Mitchell suddenly woke up and hit balls from Tate to the boundary twice. White put himself on and secured Mitchell's wicket in his second over. Details of tlio scoro are:—
