KING GEORGE'S ORDEAL.
SUCCESS OF OPERATION.
WORSE THAN FORESHADOWED
PARTS OF TWO RIBS REMOVED
CONDITION SATISFACTORY.
Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON, July 15.
The operation upon King George this morning was performed hy Sir Hugh Rigbv and Sir Wilfred Trotter. His Majesty bore the ordeal very satisfactorily. It. is pointed out that the operation was more serious than had been foreshadowed. It involved the cutting of two ribs Nevertheless in Court circles it is emphasised that the King is now more lit than when he first underwent an operation and there is confidence that his complete recovery will now be hastened. An official bulletin issued after the operation stated:—"Portions of two of His Majesty's ribs woro rem .ved n order that the circumscribed abscess, one and a-half inches across, should bo directly drained and treated. His Majesty's condition is satisfactory." The bulletin was signed by Sir Stanley Howett, Sir Hugh Rigby. Sir Wilfred Trotter, Sir Francis Shipway and Lord Dawson of Penn. It was officially announced this evening that the King's progress was entirely satisfactory. A British official wnvless message says the Prince of Wales, the Duke of York and the Duke of Gloucester remained at Buckingham Palaco while the operation was being performed. Seven doctors and specialists were present. Just before noon it became clear that the operation had been performed. The departure of the Prince of Wales and his brothers, followed by that of the two surgeons and Sir Francis Shipway, who had acted as anaesthetist, was regarded by the crowd gathered outside the Palace gates as an indication that the operation had proceeded satisfactorily.
