EFFORT AT PAPATOETOE
EARTHQUAKE FUND. A novelty entertainment and dancing were held at Papatoetoe on Monday evening, both the Town Hali and Central Theatre being used. The children cf the Papatoetoe School, under Mr. Heather, gave " nigger minstrel " items, the old timed "corner man" being well portrayed by Messrs. Kindman, Anderson. McKcnziP, Mitchell, Jones and others. The whole formed an amusing " first half " entertainment at the Town Hail, the second half being given at the <„rutral I! mat re. At the latter place items were given as follows: Songs, Dr. Talent trie and Miss \ onngson; dancing, Miss G- MacAalev and Miss Avis Hill; humour. Mr. Eric Burton. A farce entitled " A Bathrriotn M-i'oe ' was by L. Hunter. U. D ath Mcßiyant, and Messrs. Roy Henderson, W. McFarland and M. rrenrh. Puis formed the first half a! tiie Central Theatre and the second at the fawn Hail. At the conclusion of tne entertainment dancing was held m the Town Hail until midnight, music being piaved gratis bv Mr. Sullen and his City 'orchestra. In thanking all those who assisted, tne chairman of the Town Board. Mr. -nmytheman, stated that as a result, oi the eltort about £SO would be added *o the re.ief fund for the earthquake sufferers. As the local band had been instrumental in raising some £-5 as a result of a concert neld recently, the tiin<h wrneh included local donations, would now 00 in the vicinity oi £2-0.
