ROTORUA-TAUPO RAILWAY.
Sir _Wc beg leave to reply in your columns to the attack made by Mr. David McDougall, M.P., during the debate on the Addrcss-in-Reply. Mr. McDougall said the illustrations in our pamphlet were antiquated. The truth is, they range from 1910 to date. Iho majority were taken last month. Again he said: "It shows two great big turnips growing where there was a dead sheep a year before." The truth is, there is no photo of two turnips. The photo dated 1910 is of five swedes in the Auckland Winter Show of that year. The land upon which they were grown was virgin at that time. No slice]) had ever lived or died on it. The land was ploughed straight out of the scrub, and the swedes sown with 2cwt manure to the acre. It was a splendid crop. Similar crops have been grown every year. Mr. McDougall, of course, avoided reference to list of prizes won at Palmcrston North and elsewhere, provided on pages 3, 4 and 5 of pamphlet. Mr. McDougall says six months' old cattle were represented as . 6ft. high. The truth is that the photo (page 12) shows tlio calves plainly as just covering the third rail from the top of the cattle vards, which are truthfully stated to be 6ft. high. Mr. McDougall says there is no name on the pamphlet. The name of our league appears on page 20 and on the back cover- Wo are well aware that the only means of making a case against the Rotorua-Taupo railway is by misrepresentation and appeal to ignorant prejudice; but we do think that a person occupying the responsible position of a member of our House of Representatives should be above such methods. 13. J. Lownr. Hon.. Sec., Rotorua-Taupo Railway League.
