The total of £3882 was reached vest*?* day by the addition of further sub&crip- ' ions to the Heuald and W eeklt Newts fund for the relief of distress occasioned by the earthquake. Although it is now almost four weeks since the first appeaL was made, contributions continue to come in. steadily. Worthy of note is the number of small donations*, all of them, ao doubt., representing a real sacrifice by the giver.. Another striking feature is thft joint giving by staffs of companies, quite % considerable amount hating been collected a: this way. The amount of £5 credited on Saturday; to the Model Shin and Pvjarna Company, Limited, should hare, been acknowledged as from the employees of the company. The sum of 5s appearing against the name of C. W. Richards should have read as from C.W. (Riverhead;. In addition to the sum of £6 2s 6d acknowledged today as from the staff oi the Auckland branch of the Texas Company (Australasia), Limited, the company itself has donated £IOO to the Central Committee's fund. Further subscriptions will be received at the Behald office and acknowledged in these columns. The list to date is as follows:

" A substantial addition to the Mayor of Auckland's earthquake relief fund yesterday was the donation of £SOO which was paid over by the trustees of the Auckland Savings Bank. The vote was made some days aero, but the money cotiid not be paid until the authority of the Minister of Finance was received. The Mayor's fund now totals £11.041 18s 10d.
