ALTERNATIVE SERVICE.

Sir, —In Thursday's Herald there appeared a noto at the end of Mr. A. M. Richards' letter that the alternative service offered to, and refused, by him was hospital work. I shall be glad if you will be good enough to explain the meaning of "hospital service?' If it means hospital service within the scheme and according to the programme of the military system then the conscientious objectors had no alternative but to refuse the offer. If they sincerely object to military service at all then to be consistent they must object to the whole of it. Justice. [The alternative service proposed was attendance at the Auckland Public Hospital for two weeks in each year as an orderly at the wards.—Editor, Herald.]
