THOUSANDS of acres of land in the Auckland Province suitable for tobacco growing can be purchased at prices not exceeding £2O per acre. The Corporation has acquired several properties at figures not exceeding £2O per acre and will transfer them to the investor at the average cost per acre. The average yield per acre to the Nelson Tobaeeo Growers over an area of 1400 acres for the last season was approximately £BO. Allowing for the cost of replanting and preparation for the next year's crop, also interest charges on capital, this would provide a net profit per acre of between £4O and £SO. The Corporation has estimated the net profit per acre to be earned by its plantations at £3O per annum in order to work on a thoroughly conservative basis. Schemes holding out an estimated net annual profit of as much as three times that figure should be regarded with a certain amount of doubt. The Corporation is issuing two publications entitled " Tobacco-Growing in New Zealand and " The World Market for Tobacco," which are copyright, and which state for the first time in New Zealand the whole and correct position regarding the industry. On or about, 19th July a public issue will be made of £90,000 comprising a first series of 3000 Freehold Bonds of £3O each with certain guarantees by the Corporation.
