THEFTS FROM LAUNCHES.

IMPRISONMENT FOR MAORI

Charged with stealing from launches goods valued at £54 16s a Maori, Tu Taaka, aged 27, was sentenced to one year's imprisonment in tho Police Court yesterday. Chief-Detective Hammond said that accused was at present out from prison on licence. He had broken into launches during the past two months and had taken what goods ho could find. Theso ho sold to a dealer and most of tho stolen property had boon recovered.

Tho probation officer, Mr. W J. Campbell, said that accused had only one. month to go beforo his licence would expire.

"Well, ho will now havo six months' imprisonment on each charge, tho terms to be cumulative," said tho magistrate, Mr. F K Hunt, in passing sentence. An order was made for tho stolen property to be returned to the owners. Accused was convicted and discharged on a charge of converting a boat to his use. A disturbance in Phillip Street, Freeman's Bay, on tho evening of May 26 resulted in tho appearance of Stanley Grant Clark and Gcorgo Perry on charges of using obsceno language. The accused were each fined £2, in default sevon days' imprisonment. When Benjamin Addington Reston, aged <l6, was charged with failing to comply with the terms of his. release on probation it was stated that ho had paid only £4 of £3O restitution ordered in respect of a conviction. The term of probation was extended for 12 months.

A romand until noxt Wednesday for further inquiries was made in tho case of Bronda Harper, aged 18, and John Alexander Innes, aged 23, charged with being idle and disorderly,
