NIGHT TRAIN WANTED.

NEW PLYMOUTH-WELLINGTON

REQUEST TO DEPARTMENT.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.]

NEW PLYMOUTH. Wednesday.

Representations arc to bo made to the Railway Department by tho Taranaki Chamber of Commcrco with a view to bringing about tho establishment of a night train service between Now Plymouth and Wellington. This decision was reached at a meeting of tho chamber last evening. Mr. G. Eraser suggested that, failing a suitablo reply from the Railway Department, tho chamber should request ono of tho motor service companies to run a night service. Ho believed the timo had como when a motor sleeping berth servico could bo profitably run, and said ho was rather surprised that the department had not experimented with a skeleton motor servico to see what response it would meet. Jt was decided that tho Railway Committee of tho chamber should enlist the support of other chambers on tha route. It was made clear that the chamber was not in favour of dispensing with the present daylight express in favour of a night one, but thought that both were necessary.
