WIDER FRANCHISE SOUGHT.;

A movement to'" restrict the franchise for power board elections was not favourably received by delegates to the first conference of chambers of commerce in the Auckland Province, which opened in Auckland yesterday. . A remit from tho Te Awamutu Chamber, brought forward by Mr. C. G. Downes, suggested that as power boards were commercial concerns the franchise should be restricted to ratepayers, who were really in tho position of shareholders, thus bringing tho voting powers of residents in boroughs into lino with those of country residents.
