The final figures covering the operations of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, are now available, and a perusal of tho returns clearly indicates that the phenomenal progress of past seasons has been more than maintained. During tho 1928-29 season the company manufactured no less than 39,040 tons of dairy produce, made up as follows: Butter, 27,195 tons; cheese, 5949 tons; milk powder, 4341 tons; condensed milk, 934 tons; casein, 621 tons. The manager, Mr. C. J. Par!;mc, states that tlicso figures constitute an increase over tho previous season of 3702 tons, with a butter-fat increase of 3,339,0051b. When it is considered that ten years ago the total output was 11,652 tons, tlio extent, of tho company's expansion is strikingly illustrated. The unparalleled increase which has been recorded lor tho last season is due, said Mr. Parlane, to tho excellent support accorded by dairyfarmers in the company's territory, assisted by favourable climatic conditions, and a wider use of fertilisers, which was made possible by the company's effort in reducing the cost of manures to a figure which brought this very necessary commodity more within the reach of the producer. MAUNGATUROTO'S GOOD YEAR. LARGE INCREASE IN OUTPUT. The annual report of the Maungaturoto Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, slates that the past season has been a favourable one. for production, and the output of liutter is a record for the company. The total make was 452 tons, an increase of 111 tons; or over 32 per cent., on the previous season: Summarised the season's results are ns follows, figures for the previous season being shown in parentheses:—Number of suppliers, 203 (192); butter-fat produced, 837,4861b. (622,6691b.); butter manufactured, 1,012,1851b. (762,9751b.); average advance per lb. of butter-fat, 16.60 d (15.42 d); cost of manufacturing per lb. of butter, .96d (1.06 d); price paid per lb. of buttor-l'at, including cost of transit and manufacture, 18.27 d (17.39 d). Of butterfat supplied 68 per cent, was graded finest, 50.8 per cent., first grade, and 1.2 per cent, second grade. Quality as well as quantity of cream supplied improved on tho previous season, the proportion of finest rising from 40 to 68 per cent, and that of second grade falling from 3.3 to 1.2 per cent. Advances paid to suppliers against butter-fat total £57,931, and tho balance to credit of profit and loss account is £'1902. This tho directors propose to disposo by paying 1.50 d on all butter-fat supplied during the season. Tho average payment will then represent Is 6.10 d per lb. net, excluding cream carting. The rate paid for the three grades will be: —Finest, Is 6.375 d; first grade, Is 5.985 d; second grade, Is 4.885 d. BAY OF ISLANDS RECORD. NEW FACTORY AT MOEREWA. A successful season's operations is recorded in tho annual report of tho Bay of Islands Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, Ohaeawai. Tho report states tho output for the year totals 555 tons, an increase of 81 tons over the previous season, this constituting a record output for the company. The balance to credit of profit and loss account is £6940, which will enable a payment of I 9-16lhs of a penny over the whole season. This payment will bo made in July, and will make tlio average, payment, excluding cream cartage, 18.46 d per lb. for the season. From the above balance a subsidy of £lO3 also will be paid to the Herd Testing Association, leaving a balance of £ll4 on hand. Tho building of tiio new factory at Moerewa is progressing favourably, and it is expected to bo in readiness for opening in August. Cream supplied was graded as follows:—Finest, 46 per cent.; first, 52 per cent.; second, 2 per cent Of butter manufactured 41 per cent, was graded finest, 51 per cent, first, and 5 per cent, second. Cream received totalled 2.665,9701b., or 1,033,0121b. of butterlaf,, from which 1,242,6361 b. of butter was manufactured.
