PUBLICITY "TALKIES."
PRODUCTION IN DOMINION.
GOVERNMENT OFFICER'S VIEWS
The view thai Uio day of tho silent publicity film is done and that the New Zealand Publicity Department will have to' produce " talkies " to advertise the tourist attractions of the Dominion overseas was expressed yesterday by Mr. 11. \V Kenton, of the Government 1 üblicity Office Wellington, who returned from a trip to Australia by tho Ulimarou. "The largo picture-houses in Australia and all over tno world are now showing talkies, and there is not tho demand toi our silent pictures tl'nt existed formerly," Mr. Fenton said. " Many of tho Australian theatres have continued showing thorn with organ accompaniments, but (he public demands talkies. In making our publicity films wo have to study the demands of tho public." Tho Publicity Department was now investigating thc'possibilitcs of making publicity talkies, and Mr. Fenton thought that some novel films could bo produced which would prove exccllont subjects, even more eficctive than tho silent films which, released all over tho world through an American distributing firm, had always met with universal praise. Australia was an important market for publicity films on tho Peoplo from Australia could reach New Zealand more easily than those fror»-' any other country, and in ono Sydney threatroa publicity film could be shown to 12 i OOO people every day*
