PLEA FOR CHEAPER FARES

REQUEST MADE TO RAILWAYS

The agricultural and pastoral associations in the Auckland Province arc going to' ask tho Railways Deportment to reduce the rates charged for "'excursion tickets to A. and P. shows, and lo issue day excursion tickets. "Wo have been too lenient with the Railways Department in the past; we have just lakvn what they have given us and taken off our hats and said 'thank you,' " said Mr. E. A. Allan, of Pukekolie, when introducing a remit from the Franklin Association to that effect at the annual meeting of tlto Auckland Provincial Council of A. and P. associations yesterday. "We want more." said Mr. Allan. "If we press for it wo will get it." Tho railways were being run for the people, and A. and P. associations, which were performing a national service, of which many more people would take advantage if excursion fares to shows were cheaper, were entitled to consideration.
