SOUTHLAND FARMERS' VISIT.
AWARDS IN THE BABY SHOW. Tho continued success of tho Auckland Winter Exhibition was reflected in tho gate-takings yesterday, which amounted to £317, compared with £3OB on tho corresponding day last year, un increase of £9. Tho receipts for tho season to date now amount to £2037, compared with £1966 during the same period of last year, an increase of £7l
Further interest was provided yesterday by tho penning and judging of canaries and other cage birds. The number of entries was very large. Tho usual crowds were swelled by the presence of tho Southland farmers who are touring tho province, and thoir interest was evidence of the vast attraction which the exhibition has for the visiting people as well as those of Auckland. Children also were again present in largo numbers, and thero is much for thoir amusement and education There wero (he usual two sessions of freo picture programmes. A conference will be held to-day of tho Auckland Council of Affiliated Agricultural and Pastoral Associations in tho council rooms of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association in Albert Street. This evening thero will bo a conference of secretaries of tho North Island Associations in the saino rooini Tho judging of tho baby show was completed yesterday. Tho show is held to provido human interest in the exhibition, and is not considered in the light of a monoy-making vonturo. Tho results worn as follows:—Baby Dickson, 580 points, 1; Baby Mildon, 537 points, 2;- Baby O'Sullivan. 530 points, 3; Baby Lilian and Baby Grogan, 521 points, 4, equal.
