OFFICE ACCOMMODATION.
NEW TENNIS COURTS SCHEME. The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. E. 11. Potter, presiding. A special committee was appointed to investigate the question of office accommodation, and to see what alterations could bo made in the present building to give the extra accommodation required. The Works Committeo recommended that the amount received from the Returned Soldiers' Association for work lor ex-soldiers should be subsidised by money received from Young's Estate, and should bo spent on new tennis courts m Nicholson Park. Power and other poles on tho east sido of Dominion Road should bo set back - , provided that no cost was incurred by tho council. The recommonda tions were adopted. The building inspector reported that permits for 12 buildings and additions, representing a total valuo of £2787, wero issued in June. A recommendation by the traffic inspector relating to parking-signs at the Dominion Road terminus was referred to tho Legal and Finance Committee. Tho inspector said that parking signs were fixed in tho area, but they wero not conspicu ous. He asked that the signs should bo placed on stands on tho edge of the foot paths. An alternative suggestion was made by Mr. F. L. Rendcll, who said that if the kerbs were painted red for (tit* required area no obstruction wouM bo caused and thero would be no confusion to motorists. A circular letter from Mr. G. C. Munns, M.P., regarding the present transport position in the Iloskill area, met with the approval of the council. It was decided to support Mr. Munns in any action ho might tako in Parliament, in the direction of making the Auckland Transport Board an elective body this year.
