L Kelly (2), and H. Philip scored tries, and Drury kicked a penalty goal. For Howick I. Mcßae scored a try which wa3 converted by K. Warin. A collection in aid of footballs tor tho Whitford school totalled £2 ss.

OPOTIKI DEFEATS WHAKATANE.

HURUNUI-APANUI SHIELD GAME

Tho third challenge match for the Huru-nui-Apanui Memorial Shield was played at Opotiki oil Saturday botween Opotiki and Whakatano. Opotiki retained the trophy, winning by 0 points to 0. In tho first half play was rather ragged, but good football was witnessed in tlio second spell. There was a big crowd. Honours were oven in tho first quarter and play was in midfield when the changeover was called. In the second quarter Whakatano attacked, and exciting play ensued near Opotiki's lino. Whakatano had the shield holders in difficulties, but T. Black saved tho situation. Then T. Kelly secured the ball, and with a great dash down tho lino scored in the corner. The kick failed. Almost immediately afterwards Kelly secured again, and, after running down tho line, transferred to Craig, who dived over the line, and the score wa3 tj—o in Opotiki's favour at half-time. Bright play marked tho second spell, both sides making good passing rushes. Whakatano almost scored on two occasions. T. Kelly continued to bo dangerous, but was well marked. There was no further score until the final quarter. Russell (Whakatane) showed up prominently in a great solo run almost through the Opotiki side, but failed to reach the- line. Opotiki then attacked in a sweeping rush, which almost resulted in a try. Whakatane then retaliated, Mackay saving well. Right on the call of time E.
