OVERSTAYED PERMIT

CHINESE TO BE DEPORTED. UNUSUAL POSITION EXISTS. Unusual circumstances wero associated with tho caso of Pang Gow, aged 38, a Chineso market gardener, who was charged in tho Police Court yesterday with overstaying his permit to enter tho Dominion. The collector of customs, Mr. J. Mcintosh, stated accused had entered New Zealand at Wellington in November, 1925, and had immediately come to Auckland. Ho had stayed tlireo years beyond the term of his permit. Mr. Inder, who appeared for accused, said Pang Gow had made one renewal of his permit. Ho owed about £4OO to merchants in Auckland, and an application had now been made to have his term of residence extended. He had a good farm, and if he wero not deported there was every possibility that ho would reduce tho amount of his indebtedness.

"I cannot make any distinction," said tho magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, who imposed a fine' of £25 and made an order for deportation.
