The iiKKALD and Weekly Mews subscription list in connection with the iclief l'unds being raised by public contribution to give help to sufferers by the earthquake is now increased, by yesterday's receipts, to nearly £BOOO. j' 10 exact amount to date is £7969 14s 2d. lu some parts of the stricken area tho work of repairing personal loss has begun; in others it should be undertaken shortly; in all it will involve more or less outlay beyond the private resources of those who have suffered, and in none of them ought it to be borne by theso unfortunate folk alone. Because giving has been generous there is no reason to think that the need has been overtaken.Further subscriptions to this list ate requested.
