FUNERAL OF MRS. READE.
ROYAL NAVY REPRESENTED,
Tlio funeral of Mrs. G. S. Reade, whoso death occurred at tho residence in Landscape Road, Mount Eden, on Saturday, took place yesterday. There was a largo gathering of'friends, and many condolatory messages weio received, including one from Commodore G. T. C. P. Swabev, in command of tho New Zealand naval station. In recognition of Mr. Reade's generosity in promoting tho establishment of a naval training school in England Commodore Swabey sent a detachment of 12 naval ratings from the warships in port under tho command of Lieutenant J. Westmacott. Six of tho bluejackets acted as pallbearers. The Rev. F. P. Willis, of St. Andrew's Church, Epsom, officiated at the services at tho home and at Hillsborough Cemetery. The Reade endowment at Holbrook, near Ipswich, is valued at close upon £500.000, and appropriations under Mr. Reade's will are expected eventually to bring the total value of the gift to approximately £1,000,000 or over. All Mr. Reade's appropriations have now been allotted, and nothing further remains for distribution.
