NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL'/ ; CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. Tho monthly meeting of the Council of thci New Zealand Golf Association was held during tho week. Thoio were present: Sir Alexander Roberts, chairman; M, J. Crombio, W. A. Ki.ely, A. D. S. Duncan and G. 0. Sutton, secretary. A draft programme of the 1929 championship tournament, to be held from September 27 to October 5, submitted by the Wanganui Golf Club, was approved. The programme is much on the lines of that of last year, the first and second round 3 in tho play-ofl for tho amateur championship being each 18 holes and tho subsequent rounds 36 holes. The Wanganui Club advised that its president, Mr. S. Powdrell, would donate a trophy to the winner of tho amateur championship, and that tho club would also give four miniatures to tho winning team in the O'Rorke Vase teams' match. An additional match for professionals, s br.gey handicap, has also been included in t!ie programme, and tho prize money for tin's is being provided by the Wanganui Club.

Another addition to the programme is a four-ball best-ball bogey handicap- for amateurs, in addition to tho foursome handicap, the latter to bo played concurrently with the championship amateur foursome on the Monday of the tournament. Tho semi-final of the amateur championship will this year be played on tho Thursday instead of the Friday, so as to give the finalists a rest on the day immediately preceding the final. Programmes will he distributed to the clubs within tho next week or two. It was decided that the Kirk-Windeyer Cup team, which will sail by the Maheno on July 19, and arrive in Sydney on July 23, would leave for Melbourne on the following evening. It was reported that tho Hiitt Golf Club was providing a special competition in connection with tho qualifying rounds of its winter cup tournament on July 18, in which the five members of tho KirkWindeycr team, Sloan Morpeth, T. H. Iforton, A. D. S. Duncan, Dr. Kenneth Ross and J. L. Black, would bo drawn against the five lowest handicap players who enter for the tournament, and the Hutt Club would provide a special scratch prize to be played for by these 10 players. The council approved the arrangements.

Advice of forthcoming tournaments was received as follows: —Rotorua, August 27 to 30, inclusive; Takapau, August 30 and 31, ladies August 29; Dannevirke, August 1. 2 and 3; Nap'cr, September 3 to 6, inclusive; Waipukurau, September 5, 6 and 7; Harewood (North Canterbury championship), September 14 and 15; New Zealand championships (Wanganui), September 27 to October 5, inclusive; Manawatu, October 26, 28 and 29; Seafield (Wanganui), October 26, 28 and 29; Avondale, January 1 and 2, 1930. A resolution of regret was passed at the death of Mr. A J. Abbott, which occurred in London last month Mr. Abbott was for some time a member of the council, and one of the keenest supporters of the game in New Zealand. WAITEMATA LADIES' CLUB. A Canadian foursome will be played 'by members of the Waitemata Ladies' Golf Club on Wednesday. Following is the draw:—Mrs. Atkinson and Miss King, Mrs. Lewin and Miss Williams, Mrs,. Gold water and Miss N. Mason, Mrs. Walsh and Mrs. Gooding, Mrs. Nevill and Mrs. Spicer, - Jllrs. Bayly and Miss Palerett, Miss Hall and Mrs. Downer, Mrs. Beaumont and Mrs. Woods, Miss Nevill and Mrs. Gabites, Mrs. Ilogau and Mrs. Lettington, Mrs. Prime and Mrs. McDougal, Miss McGlashan and Mrs. Foster, Miss Mason and Mrs. Prosser, Mrs. Hay and Miss Ching, Mrs. Harper and Mrs. A. H. Woods, Mrs. C. Chapman and Miss Maiiindoe, Mrs. Clouston and Miss Duder. The result of last L.G.U. monthly medal round was as follows: Mrs. Harper, 97, 33—64; Mrs. Clouston, 89, 23 66; Miss Nevill, 102, 32—70. • Miss Mason won the C grade medal round with a score of 101, 36—65. The next best score was returned by Mrs. McDougal, 115. 36—79. Miss Olga Jackson won the Saturday medal round. The third round of the eclectic competition will be played on Monday. FRANKLIN LADY PLAYERS. [BY TELEGRAM.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUKEKOHE, Friday. The Franklin ladies' golf championships are to be decided on the Pukekohe links on Saturday, July 20. Play will be over 27 holes and in addition to the championship match will also comprise two medal matches and a teams match. Entries close with the secretary on Monday, <Tuly 15. A ladies' golf association for the Franklin district has been formed to conduct the championships, a meeting for the purposo being held at Pukekoho this week.
