DICKENS FELLOWSHIP.
REVIEW OF SKETCHES. An interesting review of " The Uncommercial Traveller," was given by Mr. Preston Chambers at the last meeting of tho Auckland Dickens Fellowship. .Mr. F. S. T. Little, a vice-president of the Fellowship, presided over a largo attendance. Mr. Chambers, who dealt with a largo number of tho sketches of life in London and elsewhere in England, comprised in " The Uncommercial Traveller," pointed out that, many of the articles first appeared in the magazine, " All the Year Hound," and were first published in book form in 1860, after which a number were added to the collection. Mr. G. G. Grant gave a reading, " Waiting for Jack," and Mr. W. S. Fisher read a sketch descriptive of the conditions under which the British soldiers returned from India. A gift to the Fellowship of a table reading-lamp was made by Mrs. D'Arcy Folkard. The programme 'at next week's meeting will be in charge of Mrs. Kenneth Gordon who will deal with " opening chapters."
