IMPROVING ONE'S LOOKS.
LIPSTICKS AND LIPSALVES. Lipsticks should not bo confused with lipsalves. Tho latter aro intended to heal tho lips and their colour is of minor importance—it is usually added to make the salvo less conspicuous on the mouth. On tho other hand, tho colour in lipsticks is given much care, as this is, of courso, what wc buy them for. As it is often necessary to protect tho lips against cold winds as well as colour them, the sticks aro frequently made with a cold cream base. Most lipsticks aro perfumed, "but it is as well to avoid a too higldy-pcrfumed one, as it produces a dry, tight feeling on tho mouth. Orange-coloured lipsticks aro becoming popular because they produce a natural effect —tho colouring matter changes from orange to red on tho lips. Besides being less obvious than the other .varieties, they have the advantage of being " kissproof," and will not rub off on to the table napkin.
