WOMAN FINED £3OOO.
BRACELET IN FUR COLLAR. SMART CUSTOMS OFFICER. The astuteness of some of the American customs officials is shown by the neat haul made by a veteran inspector at New York lately. The baggage of a wealthy Boston woman who ha.d arrived from Eng land was being examined when the inspector noticed that she kept putting her hand to the hack of her fur collar. He made an excuse to brush against her as she stooped over her trunk, and in doing so touched her collar.
Feeling something hard there, ho insisted on examining the coat, and found u diamond bracelet in the lining. For this and other articles which she had not declared the woman was fined £3OOO.
