THEFT OF SILK STOCKINGS.

MAGISTRATE IMPOSES FINE.

A charge of stealing eight pairs of silk stockings and artificial silk, valued at £2, was admitted by Arthur Ilawes, aged 38, in tho Police Court yesterday.

Chief-Detective Hammond said accused was employed by the contractors at Hart's new premises in High Street, and tho articles were taken during the removal of the business. Accused was married and had two children. He had not been before tho Court previously.

It was stated the theft had resulted in accused losing his position. Tho magistrate, Mr F. K. Hunt, fined accused £5

Drunkenness and disorderly behaviour resulted in the appearance of three persons. Raymond Victor Lawless, aged 24. was fined £4 for acting in a disorderly manner in a dance hall in Karangahape Road on Saturday evening. Charged with acting in a disorderly manner in Beresford Street on Saturday afternoon, Charles Snowden Hewitt, aged 23, was fined £2. No appearance was made by Robert Samuel Campbell, aged 30, who was charged with being drunk in Queen Street oi: Saturday evening. 110 was stated to have molested people. lie was fined £2. A large list of previous convictions was produced when John Denehy, aged 43, was charged with behaving in an offensive manner in Albert Park. 110 was fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment.
