MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.
EMDEN MEN AT CONCERT, EARTHQUAKE PICTURES SHOWN. The removal of the to Seamen Institute to new quarters in Simich Buildings, Customs Street West, was celebrated with a farewell concert in the old rooms at Emily Place last evening.
The strips in port were well represented in the large attendance, which included a party from the Gorman,cruiser Emden. The British seamen fraternised with tho German naval ratings and the men displayed a great interest in the. screening of a collecticu of lantern slides, lent by the Government, showing the havoc which has been wrought by the earthquake in the South Island.- ...
The following • contributed to' the musical programme, which was organised by Mrs. H, , Newbery ;—Mrs. Newbery and Messrs. Cocker and Oliver, trios; Mr. S. Hamlin, songs; Misses Kendall, duets; Mr. R. Oliver, violin solos: and Mr. H. Cocker, flute solo. ' Supper was provided by the Harbour Eights Guild under the direction of Mesdames West and Piu'don.
