EXCHANGE ON CHEQUES.
Sir, —I have read with interest Mr. Musgrove's letter referring to exchange on cheques. I must also congratulate Sir George Elliott; on the annual report of tho Bank. of. New Zealand.. Mzv Musgrova complains of paying 3s exchange on a cheque of £lO7, which was issued within 350 miles. I. have recently had to pay 8s and 9s 3d on two. cheques for £319 and £369 respectively, issued within 10 miles of my own bank in Otahuhu. My relations with the Bank, of New Zealand have always been of a very pleasant nature, but I do consider a charge of 17s 3d for transferring money 10 miles very exorbitant. I think this is a matter that could very well be taken up by the Chamber of Commerce. John C. F. Paine.
