WEEKLY HALF-HOLIDAY.
DISPUTE AT THAMES. COUNCIL AND SHOPKEEPERS. [BY telegbaph.—own cob respondent. ] THAMES, Thursday At a meeting of the Thames Borough Council a lettor, signed by 29 retail shopkeepers, was read in which they refused lo alter their decision to observe a Saturday half-holiday in favour of a midweekly holiday as ruled by the council. Eight reasons were detailed, one of which referred to tho reported intention of the Prime Minister to legislate for a universal half-holiday. .
Several members of the couricil commented strongly on ..what they termed the flouting of the council's ruling by a section of shopkeepers. Mr. R. Cox said legislation should bo introduced making .it compulsory for all shopkeepers to observe a half-holiday as decided by the council. ■ , Ifc was decided to defer further discussion until ft special meeting.
