BRITISH TYPEWRITER.

LONG DELAY IN DELIVERY. COUNTY OFFICER'S RESENTMENT. Dissatisfaction with numerous delays, culminating in a recent notification that a certain make of British typewriter specially ordered six months ago for office work would not be available until next January, was expressed by Mr, A. Murray, engineer to the Waitemata County Council, at the monthly meeting yesterday. - \ Mr. Murray said he understood that a similar typewriter could have been obtained from an American firm in less than six weeks. Authority for- the purchase of the machine -was granted by the council last December, a condition being that it. should be of British manufacture. An order was immediately placed at a cost of £6B, delivery being promised before March 31. Inquiries after that date elicited the fact that del ay 3 had occurred, and finally on June 5 the council's office was informed that delivery would not be possible until next January. "If this is' the principle which actuates British lirms in the service of their customers, the parrot-cry of 'Buy British Goods' must be altered, on account of the fact that such delay and inconvenience arc the cause of great trouble to us in our work," the engineer added in his report. In reply to inquiries Mr. Murray said that the machine had been required for some months past. His application for the purchase of a suitable machine from the best source possible was approved by the council.
