UNOFFICIAL MAGAZINE.
TRAINING COLLEGE'S PEKA. j . i Realising tho need for an unofficial organ of a more definite status than a mere supplement to the official magazine at tho Auckland Training College, the students have this year produced a new number —the Pcka. It is pointed out that tho name of the official organ, the Manukau, has in uo way been affected, but that its three-year-old offspring has been christened. A competition was held to find a suitablo title and the appropriato name of Peka —meaning spring, branch or young sapling,"--was selocted. Tho magazine is written in a light vein and has a pleasing flavour of originality and versatility. Tho organ provides an index to the profitable intellectual recreations and activities of the college. It is disappointing that there arc so few literary or serious compositions, but tho cardinal aim of the college —to provide a subordinate magazine written by tho students expressly for the students —has been achieved. The editorial on " Naming the Baby " has been well written, while tho articles " Trees " and " the Forest Kings," together with some verso selections show a promising literary touch. The arrangement of tho material and the general attractive appearance of the issue is worthy of mention.
