FALL FROM LADDER.
ELDERLY MAN KILLED.
ACCIDENT AT GAS WORKS.
FATHER OF LEAGUE FOOTBALLER.
Falling about 25ft. from a ladder at the Auckland Gas Company's works at about eight o'clock yesterday morning, Mr. Edward Thomas Avery, aged 73, of 78, Hepburn Street, Ponsonby, sustained head injuries from which he died at the Auckland Hospital three hours later. Ho was taken to the hospital by ambulance Immediately after the accident, but failed to regain consciousness.
Mr. Avery came to New Zealand 69 years ago, and for many years was engaged in the timber industry at Pahi North Auckland. He had been in the employ of the Auckland Gas Company for the past five years. He was a keen sportsman, and was vice-president of the Kingsland Athletic League Football Club.
The deceased is survived by his wife, three sons, Messrs. Bert Avery, the wellknown League footballer, who captained tho New Zealand team in England, and T. Avery, both of Auckland, G. Avery, of Australia, and two daughters, Mrs. E. Ryan, of Wellington, and Mrs. B. Woods, of Auckland.
