NEW GERMAN WARSHIP.
A FAST SUPER-CRUISER.
"CHALLENGE TO THE POWERS."
[from our own correspondent.] LONDON, April 12. A new German warship, of ingenious design, which will be capable of proceeding at low speed to the Far East without refuelling, is noted as one of the most startling of post-war naval developments in the latest issue of Brassey's Naval Annual, published to-day. Details of the warship, whoso design has been described as "a challenge to the Powers," have been eagerly awaited by naval experts all over the world.
According to the Annual, the warship will have a cruising radius superior to that of tho best British, French, Japanese and United States cruisers. It is, however, something more than a cruiser. Tho vessel is midway between a cruiser and a battleship. Its superior speed will enable it to evade an attacking battleship, while its superior armament will allow it to defeat a cruiser. Tho vessel, which will have a 10,000 tonnage, was laid down last year. The main machinery is to be of the Diesel type—two twin sets of Diesel motors developing 50,000 h.p., which will give tho ship a speed of 26 knots. ■"The radius of reports the Annual, "is stated to bo 10,000 miles at 20 knots. Tho British cruisers of tho Kent class have a radius of 10,400 miles at an economical speed of 11-14 knots. Tho French cruisers of tho Duquesne class are credited with a radius of 5000 miles at 15 knots; tho U.S A. Pensacola with 13,000 at 15 knots, and the Japanese Nachi with 14,000 miles at 15 knots. "It has been estimated that at low speed the German vessel could proceed to the Far East without refuelling." Tho ship will be armed with llin. guns, compared with the usual Bin. guns of cruisers
