ACCLIMATISATION WORK.
THE OPOTIK! SOCIETY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOTIKI, Thursdny The Opotiki Acclimatisation Society has received a lptter from the district manager of the Government, Tourist Department, Rotorua, stating that the amalgamation of the Opotiki Society with the Rotorua Society had been definitely arranged to take effect as from July 1. Delay had been caused by the Department of Internal Affairs insisting on many formalities being complied with. The letter also asked for proposals regarding tho amount of fry needed for stocking streams and the number of pheasants necessary for liberation. The society recommendod that £SO worth of fry should be liberated in the Otara and Waioeka Rivers. It was decided that it was necessary to liberate 100 brace of pheasants in different parts of the county and a request was also made for 25 opossums to be liberated in the Waioeka district. Fifteen cock pheasants and tliroo hen pheasants, bred at Opotiki, have been sent to Rotorua and are to be exchanged for tho same number from that centre, thus providing both districts with a new strain.
