FARMERS' UNION.
THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
GATHERING IN AUCKLAND.
The annual provincial conference of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union will open in Auckland to-morrow morning and is expected to last four days. The Mayor, Mr. George Baildon, will officially open the conference and address the delegates. The conference is held in Whangarei, Auckland and Hamilton in rotation and it is now three years since it last met in Auckland. Since that time the membership throughout the province has grown remarkably and at present is three times as great as it was when the gathering last met here. In addition there has been evidence of far greater keenness than in the past to discuss all the problems which farmers are facing and the conference is expected to be one of the most important ever held by the union. Rural problems have grown rapidly recently, while branches all over the province are taking interest in political, commercial and social questions than before. From all the branches over 130 remits have been forwarded for discussion, while a number of other questions affecting farmers will be considered.
