TIMBER FROM EMPIRE.

RESEARCH WORK IN BRITAIN.

FURTHER USE ADVOCATED.

LONDON, May 6.

" Somo of tho Empire timbers, like Australian jarrah, Burma teak and British Columbia pine, have won their way on the English market, and are used here regularly," says the Secretary, for the Dominions, Mr. L. S. Amery, in a letter to the Times. The value of others has been proved, but has not been widely recognised.

" The Empire Marketing Board," he adds, " is providing funds to enable the research station at Princes Risborough scientifically to test Empire timbers on an extensive scale. Public bodies and big companies have an exceptional opportunity to use Empire timbers in their buildings, provided their requirements as regards seasoning and finishing are properly understood. " The research station is collecting samples of Empire woods for exhibition, for the guidance of architects and builders. It also wishes to compile a list of buildings in which overseas and Empire timbers aTe used for construction and decoration. Thus architects and builders may see practical examples." Mx*. Amery concluded by appealing to the owners and designers of such buildings to assist the Empire Marketing Board, in compiling the list.
