CANTERBURY NOTES.
RICCARTON TRACK WORK. [BY TELEGHAPU. —OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHDRCH. Thursday. The conditions were very unpleasant while training operations were in progress at Riccarton" this nion;ing. The weather was .fine when the early trainers put in an appearance, but after a few horses had worked, a cold southerly drizzle set in. Proceedings were not very interesting, most of the work being of the useful order. Prickles and Sudden Storm were associated in a gallop over seven furlongs and got through their task very creditably. They are due to race at the Dtinedin meeting next month, when they should be at their best. G. Reed 13 keeping the three-year-old filly Quick Plunge going in strong wtrk. She had Impertinence as a mate in a threefurlong sprint and shaped well. It is probable that Quick Plunge will develop into a useful performer. She will have her first race at Ashburton Paper Boy reeled off six furlongs in very attractive style. He is very well and should be a winner very soon. Nightdew beat Marsham in a six-furlong spin, but it was not a good effort, the time being slow. Nightdew is a promising sort, however, and may turn out useful. Honeycomb was responsible for another useful gallop when he hit out freely over six furlongs. The imported horse has only to remain sound to win good races next season. Gay Sonnet moved attractively in a sixfurlong gallop. She appears to have thrown off her soreness and should pick up another stake during the winter, as the soft tracks suit her. Countersign and Commenter were pent together for a half-mile sprint. The time was fair and they were going well at the end. Countersign is rapidly getting into good form, while Commenter should pay her way next season. Zeuxis ia very well and allowed great dash in a half-mile sprint. Ho only requires to reproduce his best track form to win a stake. Sweet Refrain galloped six furlongs by herself. Sho showed a great burst of speed in the early stages, but was stopping very badly over tho last part of the journey. Sea Raid ran live furlongs in attractive style and may pick up another hack sprint before the end of the season. Amorist is training on well and should be at his be9t for early races. Unfortunately he appears to lack stamina or he would win good hurdle races, as ho is a clever jumper.
