EXCURSIONS BY RAIL.
VISITORS TO MT. MAUNGANUI. OFFER MADE BY MINISTER. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] TATJRANGA. Thursday. The Minister of Railways, Hon. W. B. Taverner, has replied to representations of the Bay of Plenty Development League with reference to the branch railway line from Te Maunga Junction to Mount Maunganui stating that it has been decided to run excursion trains to. the Mount as traffic might warrant.
The Minister adds:—"l desire to make it clear that the department does not propose to constitute the line in question as an ordinary part of the railway system for the purposes of working any other traffic than excursions, nor will money be spent on the upkeep of the line. As long, however, as the lino remains suitable for the running of excursion trains we will be willing to take the trains to the Mount."
