ROADS AND PETROL TAX.

POSITION IN BACK BLOCKS.

STATEMENT BY MINISTER. [by telegraph.—press association.] BLENHEIM, Thursday. Referring to roading problems in the course of an address in Blenheim the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, said he gave the Reform Administration full credit for the great improvements made in the roads in recent years, but said that in travelling round ho realised there was still a great deal to be done for country roads and back roads would have to be tackled. Mr. Hansom said he had been threatened that if he interfered with the petrol tax there would bo a howl from the motor organisations, but he did not care much if there was. It was obvious there were many back blocks payers of the petrol tax who had not howled loudly enough in the past. They required just as much consideration as those motorists who had the privilege of motoring over nice bitumen roads.
