DETAILS OF DAMAGED GOODS.

Extensive damage was done to the cargo of Eastern produce on board the steamer Sussex, which put back to Samarang, Java, on April 26, owing to an extensive outbreak of fire in No. 4 hold. At Samarang the fire was extinguished by flooding the hold with water. Afterwards the steamer proceeded to Sourabaya, where the cargo in the after holds was discharged and repairs were effected to the vessel. She ife now on her way to Auckland, and is expected to arrive about May 25. At the time the fire occurred the Sussex was en route from Calcutta, Hangoon, Singapore, Penang and Samarang to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The following cargo was damaged and discharged at Sourabaya:—From Calcutta, 2172 bags of bonemeal, 70 bales of twillbags, 14 bales of hessian cloth, 57 bales of woolpacks, 20 bales of hessian bags, 41 bags of myrobalan; from Rangoon, 7246 bags of rice, 76 bags of coffee,' 300 bags of beans; from Penang, 324 bags of tapioca; from Singapore, 1050 cases of pineapples, 111 bags of pepper, 45 cases of nutmegs, and 54 bags of tapioca.
