SAMOAN COCOA INDUSTRY.
PLANTERS VISIT AUCKLAND. Two cocoa-planters of Samoa, Mr. A, It. Cobcroft and Mr. K. Meyer, arrived from Apia by the Tofua yesterday on their way to England, via Java and Ceylon. Cocoa-planting is a flourishing industry in Samoa, and during their trip abroad both will visit plantations in the East and study the methods employed in cocoa production. Speaking of the industry in Samoa, Mr. Cobcroft said there were about 3000 acres under cultivation, and from 960 to 1000 tons of cocoa beans were exported to England each year. The product was of the very best quality, and the highest prices were given for it in the world's markets.
