VALUELESS CHEQUE USED
OFFENCE BY SALESMAN
Described as a salesman, Leo Samuel Carl Minifio, aged 61, pleaded guilty in the Police Court yesterday to a charge of having obtained £6 with a valueless cheque.
Chief-Detective Hammond said accused had borrowed £1 from Arthur 11. Sutton, shopkeeper, Feilding, in April, and the noxt day ho took a cheque for £6 into Sutton's shop to pay the debt. Sutton cashed it, giving accused £4 19s 6d change. The cheque was, dishonoured at the bank.
In order to read a letter written by accused, the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, remanded him to appear to-day for sentence.
Sentence of one month's imprisonment was passed on Murdo Mcßae, aged 26, seaman, who pleaded guilty to a charge of having used obscene language to a constable who arrested him for drunkenness on Saturday at Freeman's Bay. On a charge of resisting arrest, accused was convicted and discharged. A week's remand was granted in the case of James Anthony Lynch, 26, fireman, who pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a suitcase and contents, valued at £l6, tho property of Albert J. Drane, at Wellington, in April. It was stated there was another charge pending against accused.
