ACTIVITY OF BURGLARS.
EXPLOSIVES USED ON SAFES. TWO CITY PREMISES ENTERED. NEITHER ATTEMPT SUCCEEDS. 'Cains gelignite, burglars made an attempt toi break open the strongroom at tha premises o£ Measrs. Thompson, aad Wilts. Kelson Street,. an Thursday evening. The- Ibck 0m the door was: shattered;* But the bolts jammed and the door cculd not be- opened. The intruders sealed a wall and used a ladder to climb' down into: the area. By forcing a rear window, they entered. the factory portion of the building,; where the strongroom is situated.. Pieces of putty and ferae were scattered on the floor. It is stated there wa3 no money in the safe at the time, and as far as can be ascertained nothing waa removed from the premises. An attempt was also made to wreck the safe, in the office of Irvine ami Stevenson,, manufacturers, Hepburn Street. The safe in, the office had: been charged with gelignite but the' explosion jammed the locks and the safe door could not be opened., Entrance to- the premises bad- been gainedafter a padlock had been forced oil a sliding door leading on to the street. Nothing wu stolen.

Otahuhu,. waa made by burglars, during, tile early hours of yesterday morning. A pane of glass in the front door was broken to. enable the intruders to manipulate the patent leek,, bos owing, to there being two- iron feolta at the top and bottom, the attempt to enter by these means failed. The burglars then went to- the rear of the premises and forced an entrance through the window into, tha workroom, bat. a further door leading from there to tha shop was locked. This door, although attacked with a tool of soma sort, could not be opened.
