HINDUS AND ECLIPSE.
OBSERVANCE OF EVENT, MULTITUDE OF BATHERS. (Received May 10, 11.45 p.m.) United Service. DELHI, May 10. Throughout India yesterday orthodox Ilindus observed in time-honoured fashion the partial eclipse of the sun. The bathing ghats at Calcutta were thronged by tens of thousands of bathers. It is obligatory on Hindus to fast during an eclipse, to batho in the Ganges and tu give food and presents to beggars.
